I have been using Evernote for many many years, and its awesome. It could just be labeled as a note taking app, that is available across all platforms (phone, tablet, desktop) but it is so much more.
It can be used for project management, planning holidays, reminders, meeting notes, lists or just about anything you can imagine. You can save your audio, text, pictures, and various other things as notes.
As you can easily use on your phone, you can take notes anywhere, even when you are offline.
One of the cool features I use is saving web pages directly to my Evernote for later use. Perfect when doing research for more awesoming.
I pay for the premium subscription as it is that good, one of the features I like is searching handwritten notes – yes, it even reads my handwriting which is impressive.
I also keep all my important documents in there, so when I travel I dont have to worry about insurance details, reservations etc as I know I always have it available to me.
Awesome Pro Tip – use tags rather than notebooks!
